Maintenance Guide
One of the greatest advantages of cobblestone driveways is their minimal maintenance requirements. With basic care, your driveway will maintain its beauty for generations.
Regular Maintenance
Monthly
- Remove leaves and debris with a leaf blower or broom
- Inspect for any settled or loose stones
- Check edging for damage or shifting
Annually
- Inspect joint sand and replenish as needed
- Power wash to remove stains and buildup (use low pressure)
- Apply paver sealer every 3-5 years (optional)
- Check and repair any damaged edging
Addressing Common Issues
- Settled Stones: Remove stone, add sand, replace and compact
- Weeds: Pull by hand or use weed killer safe for stone
- Stains: Use appropriate cleaner for the stain type (oil, rust, organic)
- Joint Sand Loss: Sweep in new polymeric sand and mist to set
The key to a 100+ year cobblestone driveway is proper base preparation during installation. A well-prepared base prevents settling and shifting, eliminating most maintenance issues before they start.
